Radiation Protection Agency (RPA) together with the IAEA team of experts held high-level meetings with 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆, 𝗛𝗼𝗻. 𝗟𝗲𝘁𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗮 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗻𝘁𝘀𝗶, under whose Ministry the RPA operates as an autonomous body. The discussions focused on ensuring continued strategic support for the Agency. The team also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations 𝗛𝗼𝗻. 𝗟𝗲𝗷𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗷𝗼𝗮𝗻𝗲 whose Ministry plays a key role in facilitating international cooperation in nuclear and radiation safety matters.

Today, the RPA and experts conducted an Inspection visit at Maseru Regional Hospital, one of the key facilities using radiation for medical purposes. Later, the team had the honour to meet the 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗛𝗼𝗻. 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝘂𝗲𝗹 𝗡𝘁𝘀𝗼𝗸𝗼𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗸𝗮𝗻𝗲, who reaffirmed Government’s full support and commitment to ensuring that the RPA is well-resourced to effectively carry out its mandate as established by the Radiation Protection Agency Act, 2018.

The team also met 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵, 𝗛𝗼𝗻. 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗻𝗲, to discuss recommendations for strengthening radiation safety in the health sector — the main user of radiation in the country.

This afternoon, engagements continue with𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙘𝙚𝙨, 𝙃𝙤𝙣. 𝙈𝙤𝙝𝙡𝙤𝙢𝙞 𝙈𝙤𝙡𝙚𝙠𝙤, under whose Ministry the National Liaison Office is hosted. The meeting will focus on strengthening collaboration and building a robust regulatory framework, particularly as Lesotho explores potential future developments in nuclear energy.
